Russell (Rusty) Sloane

  • Lecturer

A native of North Carolina, Russell “Rusty” Sloane received his undergraduate degree from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI).  Immediately upon graduation, he entered service to this country in a career that would span over 21 years. Initially, he served as an officer in the United States Navy earning his designation as both a Surface Warfare Officer and Nuclear Launch Officer. Before being accepted to Navy Flight School, Rusty completed a lateral transition into the United States Coast Guard and served in that capacity for the next seventeen years.

As a military aviator, Rusty was involved in numerous overseas deployments, search and rescue cases, helped set up the first Rotary Wing Air-to-Air Intercept Squadron over the nation's capital, and retired with distinction as the senior Instructor Pilot and Operations Officer of Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi. Among the numerous decorations he received were three Commendation Medals for intrepid actions, the Antarctic Expeditionary Medal.

Post military retirement, Rusty entered the aerospace industry and flourished in the role of Instructor Pilot before entering senior management positions and then leaving to form his own environmental consulting business. During this period, he earned his MBA from The Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University.

Rusty is the proud father of four daughters. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoys obstacle course events, kayaking, paddleboarding, and, much to the chagrin of his children, camping at historical sites.

He and his wife, Luckie, live for Baylor football in the fall. He and his family feel blessed to be a part of Baylor and working with the next generation of professional aviators.
